I am an artist specializing in everything from sculpture to colored pencil and even music, My range varies by mood and is constrained only by my imagination. Born in Virginia, I have had many homes between North and South Carolina before my family settled in Summerville, South Carolina by the second half of my 7th grade year. Raised by a single mother alongside an older brother by 2 years, it wasn’t until my mom got married and had my sister that we could settle down with new goals in mind. Never overly negative but truly impactful was my childhood which, especially in more recent years, is what drives the subject matter of my artwork.
There was never a time that I wasn’t at least drawing. Mom still recalls moments of frustration as a toddler when I would disapprove of my work and correct it as I went along. “I would just watch him draw with crayons and colored pencils on paper and he would get so mad, then crumple the paper up and start over. I was like, wow this boy is serious!” Because of these observations, she would encourage my passion to create and make sure there was always some type of canvas within reach. As I got older, it would seem like every chance to learn something new about art would be an excuse to experiment on prior discoveries. Stop-motion videos made via 3DS or even traditional animation through any free software I could get my hands on were all fair game in my mind. Whether it was grades or failure to do chores, even through punishment my need to create could not be held back. I took a liking to Legos when he was younger but I would also leave them spread across the floor, which would eventually get them taken away temporarily as punishment for the mess. This would only spark the need for another outlet that would soon become a small YouTube channel run of making models out of popsicle sticks and pipe cleaner based off of my favorite games and tv shows. Under the title “Pencildeity Art For Nerds,” I would continue not only creating my own toys at the time but also content for other people to watch and immerse themselves in.
Later, I would pick up on digital art and design towards the end of high-school for commissions and general practice. College seemed like a great opportunity to try new things which would inspire me to begin making music. Music has always been a strong motivator for me especially in high-school where I discovered the interest in the Hip-hop/Rap genre. While at first I strived to make album cover art for music artists, this eventually inspired me to start writing my own music. With a new found ambition and an urge to create, the beginning of my musical journey under the stage name LGP Ammon planted its roots in 2019. Using a combination of my middle name (Ammon) and a phrase that I wished to stand by (Live, Give, and Prosper) it would make for a brand new perspective on artistic expression to live by. I would start releasing music in 2021 after practicing and learning through the COVID-19 pandemic and by 2022 I would be invited to join live shows in Charleston locations like the Tin Roof, Lo-Fi Brewing, Purple Buffalo, and many others. At the first half of 2023 I released my first indie album, “Rise Of The Introverts,” in tandem with my Senior Thesis Art Exhibition in the College of Charleston CATO building for Studio Art majors as a collaboration project between my fine arts and musical side.
